LONDONDERRY – The Nutfield MOMS (Moms Offering Moms Support) club is in the beginning stages of planning a new playground in town.

"We’ve been surveying residents to see what they’d like in the new playground, " said Melissa Coffey. "We’ve been at soccer registrations with the surveys and sent them to preschools, day cares, and the senior center."

Coffey wants input so that all ages may enjoy the proposed playground, which will include a separate area for toddlers and perhaps a walking trail.

Three town-owned properties have been chosen as potential sites by the Recreation Commission. One is Sandborn Road near North School; another is where the current playground is behind the Central Fire Station; the third is in the West Road Continental Park soccer fields.

"We took Griffin Park in Windham as a model," said Coffey. "We probably won’t be as elaborate, but we’d like to start fundraising soon."

The Nutfield MOMS has 65 members, with 50 living in Londonderry. Coffey and co-planner Lara McIntyre said there will soon be a Web site dedicated to the playground. In the meantime, anyone interested in the playground may e-mail nutfieldmomsclub@yahoo.com.
